Teaching in Schools project

A major focus for the Cultural Life Tanzania program in Tanzania is secondary education. The country has a critical shortage of math and science teachers at the secondary school level. Due to lack of financial and human resources, the government is not able to attract the number of teachers it requires.

Education Programmes

Gendaa primary School
Current Volunteers teach mathematics and science subjects in both private and public schools, as well as information and communication technology (ICT) at teacher colleges. All Volunteer teachers in secondary schools help with computer skills training. volunteer also go hand to hand cooperating with local English teachers in helping them teaching English .and sharing some teaching methodology e.g subject presentation, teaching aids etc.

Brief Description:
Costigan English Medium School holds about 300 children.The school also hold a boarding section for about 40 of them who live at the school Headmaster Cecilia Joseph and Manager Zazharia Mahemba help these children fulfill there future dreams and always welcome volunteers gratefully for their help.

Main mission:
To improve the children’s English is the main mission in this school along with of course other subjects and social skills. Help the children achieve there future dreams!


Volunteer job description :
At Costigan volunteers will help the staff
.Teach the children in grades 1 – 2
.Spend time with the nursery children
.Volunteers can help teach the children basics, like the alphabet and numbers
. Colouring and other games.
.Helping the children to learn to read and write English
.Drawing, painting, music and singing!
.General cleaning of the property and boarding dormitory.

Working hours: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm Mon - Fri

Duration
Short Term: 2 weeks – 12 weeks
Long Term: 4 months – 1 year

Hosting Situation The accommodation is at host family, private or shared rooms with other volunteers and bathroom. Meals are provided 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Volunteers
can walk or ride a bike to the project.

What you can bring with? Volunteers can bring skipping ropes, balls, sport stuff, stationaries, books, pens, pencils, arts and craft supplies. Volunteers can also bring computers, calculators, clothes and shoes.

Available dates: Through out the year

Brief description:
Gendaa Primary school is a primary school in Karatu, Arusha, Tanzania. The School holds about 500 children from ages 4 – 13 years old. The school has primary education for grades 1-7 and also a pre-school section for children of 4 - 5 years old.Headmaster of the school is Hussein Musa Kavumo. Staff members are about 14 and can always use the help of volunteers!

Main mission: To empower children to become productive members of society through education. Help them to fulfill their future dreams by teaching them and spending time with them.

Volunteer job description :
At Gendaa Primary School volunteers will
.Help the staff teach the children,
.Volunteers would help in the morning with the preschool students teach basics like the alphabet, numbers
.Drawing, playing and singing.
.Volunteers would also help teach children in grades 1 – 2. Basics such as reading and writing, alphabet,numbers, arts and crafts
. Volunteers can play with the children in their free time, sports, ball games, jump roping if you can bring and so on
. General cleaning and maintaining of the school property.

Brief description:

Bwawani Primary School holds 1110 children Tanzanian children from grades 1 – 7. The school also holds a nursery for children ages 4-6.Headmaster Stephen Irambo and his staff always welcome volunteers to help with the children in grades 1 and 2 and also the smaller children in the nursery.

Bwawani Primary School is in downtown Karatu, Arusha region, Tanzania.

Main mission: To improve the children’s education in becoming well productive members of Tanzania,to broaden their mind and discover their talents.

Volunteer job despription :

At Bwawani volunteers will help the staff
.Teach the children in grades 1 – 2 and also spend time with the nurcery children
. Volunteers can help teach the children basics, like the alphabet and numbers
. Colouring and other games.
.Helping the children to learn to read and write, drawing, painting, music and singing.
.General cleaning of the property
.Help with prepairing the food and clean dishes.
